Cornerstone OnDemand is self-described for providing talent management, training e-learning, and performance management software delivered as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). Below is a quick video to provide a more detailed overview.

This video features one of the clients Cornerstone provides services, which is Penn State Hersey Medical Center. It demonstrates how the LMS engages its the medical community in professional development and archives a vast number of resources for continued training.

As discussed in the table below, Cornerstone has features for all five types of extended enterprise solutions. Here is a summary of them --
"Licensing and Certification:
  • Sophisticated tiered certification and recertification
  • Custom certification
  • Forms management
  • Compliance management
  • Standard and custom reports
  • Management dashboard views
  • Show certification status by partner type

  • Self registration
  • Shopping cart
  • Payment processing
  • Transaction management
  • Tiered training catalogs (fee vs. free)
  • Purchase any type of training
Social Collaboration:
  • Universal profile for each learner including photos, skills, resume and profile information
  • Activity streams for people, places and projects
  • Groups, communities and forums
  • Engagements and connections
  • Blogs and & social content
  • Product innovation communities
  • Rate and share ideas across audiences
Mobile:
  • Mobile app for smartphones and tablets

  • Disconnected learning with sync to LMS
Globalization:
  • 41 language localizations
  • Offices in Santa Monica, Auckland, Hong Kong, London, Mumbai, Munich, Madrid, Paris, Rome, Sydney, Tel Aviv and Tokyo" (Leh 2014).
To summarize, there are a lot of unique features that would make this great for large companies and corporations. For educational institutions, there are better solutions. The biggest complaint across the board was support. Until our educators catch up with the technology industry, Cornerstone would not be a wise choice. The tiny details and extra features would confuse many teachers and become frustrating, which would require a person on staff to be a "Cornerstone Expert."
Advantages* Long-time competitor, which focused solely on LMS

* Single sign on feature
  • easily search for training
  • integrates with Outlook
  • Can create own reporting methods
  • Employees can add in their own training that they may have completed somewhere else (Higgins 2012).

Disadvantages* Does not provide gamification functionality, which is needed in extended enterprise settings
  • Mobile applications needed to built out to compete with rivals
  • No primary/secondary education clients published experience on website
  • Maybe too large of a service provider, could potentially lack in customer service (Leh 2014).
  • Some features can only be enabled by the vendor, which can take a long time.
  • Users sometimes have to "click" many times to reach a certain page.
  • Must unenroll students one by one, not group unenrollment feature.
  • Can be tricky to make changes to courses after already published (Higgins 2012).
