My Love/Hate Relationship with Canvas
Thanks for the comments and information, y'all! I´m thankful for our ¨playground" to be able to navigate Canvas as a teacher. Sorry if you got an email (or two) as I created some practice quizzes/assignments while researching for this assignment. :)

Edmodo Love
I've always been a huge Edmodo fan! Today, I only use Google Classroom but I used Edmodo during my first five teaching years. I love the built in quiz feature and the ease of attaching files. I do still follow several networks/professional learning communities. Great ideas come from Edmodo teachers!

I created a Moodle account about 6 years ago when our county was encouraging us to use Moodle. I have to be honest, I never used it. Honestly, I didn't know enough about LMS at the time to use it--and I don't think anyone else did, either. I will definitely review Moodle to possibly use in my classroom.

Edmodo Badges
I think its a great motivational tool. I can't tell you how many games I play where I do certain things just so I can earn a badge! :)
I can see how I would get caught up in earning badges myself.

I will check into the Google interaction. That would make Edmodo even more appealing to me since I already consistently use my Google Drive and apps.

Adrianne, I love the idea of using a LMS for book clubs. It would be something new and different to use with my students, while incorporating technology in my classroom.

I think Google Classroom would be a good option for my school/classroom for several reasons. One, we use most of the Google programs already--sites, calendar, sheets, docs, etc--so the teachers already have a Google Drive. Another, student have the ability to communicate with the teacher, but there's no "social media" collaboration. Although that is listed as a disadvantage, I believe it could be an advantage with younger students. Although we use many Google apps, we are not a GAFE school to the best of my knowledge, so the service would not be free. Even though Google Classroom may be more limited in the social learning area, I think it would be worth looking into as an introductory LMS for schools.

I really enjoy using Google Classroom for extracurricular activities. I sponsor a book club and coding club for fourth and fifth grade, and use Google Classroom to communicate important information to students and parents. While it doesn't provide as many social learning opportunities as some of the other learning management systems, students can provide comments and edit work on one document. This has been especially helpful in my book club. Everyone contributes to writing and answering questions for the assigned books, and provide comments on the side. Students are engaged during face-to-face class discussions because of their interaction online.

Jordan, great information. I feel like we all have a good depth of knowledge of Canvas from using it on our side for the last year or so. It's interesting to see Paul's comments from a teacher perspective. Although, I would add "not compatible with all browsers" to the disadvantages section.

Paul, I have subscribed to my Canvas calendar, and notifications are sent through my phone. There is a button somewhere in the app (I think) where you can get notifications sent to iCal and Google. I will look back into it some more and let you know.
